What You'll Learn


With five different subject areas in Academic Pentathlon, and a new curricular theme each year, you will constantly be learning something different. Pentathlon uses the same theme as Academic Decathlon which can create an entire curriculum. The more years you participate in Academic Pentathlon, the more themes you will master. These themes are developed by our curriculum team with special attention to national content standards. Your participation in Pentathlon will allow you to become more knowledgeable and a stronger all-around student.





 

The 2022-23 United States Academic Pentathlon theme is the The American Revolution and the New Nation. Below is a brief summary of the topics covered.


SCIENCE: The science topic will be an introduction to chemistry and will include brief discussions of significant advancements made in chemistry during the last half of the eighteenth century and the early nineteenth century.

LITERATURE: The literature curriculum will include critical reading, one long work of literature, and selected shorter works. The long work of literature will be the novel Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson, ISBN-10: 1416905863.

FINE ARTS: The fine arts curriculum is a combination of art and music. The guide will explore early American Art and present an introduction to early American music. 

SOCIAL SCIENCE: The social science curriculum will be the American Revolution and the founding of the United States of America.

MATHEMATICS: The mathematics curriculum will cover algebra and an introduction to trigonometry.
