Curriculum Updates

Below are curriculum updates for the 2017-2018 Academic Decathlon® curriculum:

ART

August 3, 2017

In the Art Resource Guide, page 64, column 2, the 1st sentence of the 3rd complete paragraph should read: “The lyre measures approximately 16 inches deep, 45½ inches wide, and 47¾ inches high.”
 
While many sources refer to the Yoruba brass head as a bronze, the most accurate description of the material used for this work is brass. Therefore, the word “bronze” or “bronzes” in the discussion of this work should be replaced with “brass” or “brass heads.” This revision affects page 91, last line of column 2; page 92, column 1, 7th line of the 1st complete paragraph; page 92, column 2, 2nd line from the top; page 92, column 2, 3rd line of the 1st complete paragraph; and page 97, column 1, 4th bullet.
 
In the Art Resource Guide, page 92, column 1, the 3rd line from the top of the column should read: “…example is one of the seventeen heads…” and the 1st complete sentence of column 2 should read: “Twelve of the seventeen….” (Note the total number of heads varies depending on the source, but the British Museum, a reputable source, cites the number as seventeen.) In the Art Resource Guide, page 25, 1st column, in the 7th line of the last paragraph, “about two hundred acres” should be corrected to read “about two thousand acres.” Click here for the revised page.

In the Art Resource Guide, page 63, column 1, in the 3rd line of the 1st complete paragraph, “signing” should be corrected to read “singing.” Click

In the Art Resource Guide, page 96, column 1, in the 10th line of the 1st paragraph “top” should be corrected to read “bottom.” And, in the 16th line of this paragraph, “right” should be corrected to read “left.” Click

In the Art Resource Guide, page 33, column 2, the 3rd sentence of the 1st complete paragraph should read: “Perhaps the most famous work of ancient Chinese art is the Great Wall, which was constructed over the course of centuries and covers thousands of miles.” Click here for the revised page.

In the Economics Resource Guide, page 118, 2nd column, in the 2nd sentence of the 1st complete paragraph, the word “Mediterranean” should be deleted, so it reads: “…plantations on islands like Madeira….” Click

In the Literature Resource Guide, page 37, in lines 11–12 of the 2nd column, “the festival of the new pumpkin leaves” should be corrected to read “the New Yam Festival.” Click

In the Music Resource Guide, page 9, in the 6th line from the bottom of the 1st column, Titos Sompa’s name should be spelled Sompa.

In the Music Resource Guide, page 62, in the 5th line from the bottom of the 2nd column, 6/5 should be corrected to read 6/4. Click
